AGDE

AGDE

Nicknamed the ‘black pearl of the Mediterranean’ due to its buildings made of volcanic basalt stone, Agde boasts over 2,600 years of history, making it one of the oldest towns in France; it was originally founded by the Greeks under the name Agathé Tyché.
Today, the town is known for its historic centre with its medieval charm, narrow streets and dark stone houses, as well as for its lively seaside resorts such as Cap d’Agde. It attracts both history enthusiasts and holidaymakers who come to enjoy its beaches, harbour and natural surroundings, nestled between the sea, the Thau lagoon and the Mediterranean coastline.
